A messy kitchen is the sign of happiness!

Cooking with grandchildren is fantastic. It is a simple and fun way to introduce children to mindfulness.. It helps them to use their senses especially taste and smell and to experience the world around them and become lost in flow of creating. It creates a a great opportunity to be present as opposed to running around like puppies. Whilst there is nothing wrong with children running around sometimes they, like us, need to switch off, relax and just do one thing at a time. It forces you to slow down and the repetitive movements of mixing, chopping and stirring can be very relaxing. It helps children to learn to focus.

Being together in the kitchen can have powerful psychological effects too as well as having some quality time together and also teaching them skills for life. He now knows how pumpkins grow, where they grow and the fun of picking them.

My grandson and I made pumpkin loaf and he discovered he didn't like cinnamon at all and was so proud of the loaf when it was cooked. He also learned to be patient whilst it was cooking which was for him the most difficult part but he made it. The smile on his face once it was ready was precious.
