Am I doing it wrong?

If you've ever walked  into a yoga class and thought "Everyone knows what they are doing except me" then you are not alone.

Lots of beginners worry about things that are completely normal and  nothing to do with whether you are "good" at yoga at all; if anyone is good at yoga.

Am I Doing It Wrong?

1

"I can't touch my toes"

Touching your toes is not the aim of a forward fold. Rather the pose is to create a stretch, not to win a flexibilty contest.

You might be able to pop your hands on the floor, fingertips or reach your shins but all of those are fine and bring the same benefits. Yoga is not a "how far can you go?" it's how it feels when you get there.

"I can't do Pigeon Pose"

You don't have to love Pigeon pose. Some people do and some don't.  There are lots of different ways to target the same area without creating discomfort in mind and body.

"I keep falling out of balance poses"

So does everyone else.  I do. Some days you feel steady and some days we don't. That is normal. Balance is a skill that improves with practice.

"I need blocks, so I must not be good at yoga"

Using blocks is not cheating. A block just brings the floor closer to you. I use blocks to help me in a lunge twist as i supports my alignment and makes it more acccessible.

"I'm shaking so I must be weak."

No, Not necessarily. Shaking is feedback from your body. It maybe because you are challenging your body, improving stability and building strength.

I hope this helps and never compare your practice to anyone else's.  It is your practice not the person next to you.

Press Pause Yoga – Summer Newsletter

Hello, I'm so glad you're here.

I hope you're enjoying the summer and finding time to make some lovely memories with family and friends.

Although summer often means holidays, busy days and a change in routine, it's also a reminder that looking after yourself is just as important. Even a few minutes of gentle movement, mindful breathing or simply sitting quietly with a cup of tea can help you feel calmer and more energised.

I'm passionate about helping people discover that yoga really is for everyone—especially those who think it's not for them. Whether you've never stepped onto a yoga mat, don't feel flexible, haven't exercised in years, or simply don't know where to begin, you're exactly the kind of person I love to support.

I believe yoga should be accessible to everyone, which is why I teach everything from gentle mat-based classes to chair yoga, making movement available regardless of age, ability or experience.

In today's busy world, we all need somewhere to pause. Through gentle movement, breathing and mindfulness, my aim is to help you find a little more calm, a little less stress, and a little more kindness towards yourself. You don't have to change who you are to start yoga—you just need to begin, one breath at a time.

I can't wait to share this journey with you.

 Classes Are Still Running

Most of our yoga classes will continue as normal throughout the summer.

Please note there will be no classes on:

Monday Kimberworth Park;

17th August

Thursday Chapletown;

13th and  20th August

Thank you for your understanding, and I look forward to seeing you before and after my short break.

School Holiday Survival Tips

  • Keep moving—even a 10-minute walk or gentle stretch counts.

  • Don't feel guilty about taking a few minutes for yourself.

  • Encourage the whole family to take screen breaks and enjoy some fresh air.

  • Stay hydrated, especially on these warmer days.

  • Remember, perfect summer days don't exist—enjoy the little moments instead.

August Thought

"You don't have to do everything. You just need to do something that helps you feel like you again."

Take a deep breath.

Relax your shoulders.

Smile.

You've just practised yoga.

Thank you for being part of our wonderful yoga community. Your smiles, support and laughter make every class so special, and I can't wait to see you on the mat throughout the summer.

Wishing you a happy, healthy and relaxing August.

With love,

Francine
