I feel that today's society sets such unrealistic and often unattainable beauty standards. It is so much pressure and as a a curvy yoga teacher I am presented all day long with a set image of yoga teacher. That feeling of we are not enough is deeply ingrained in so many of us. There is no easy answer for transforming these feelings and learning but I do know that yoga in a welcoming community encourages you to listen to your own body and and find a happy place there.
I want my classes to be peaceful, fun and friendly. I support people to listen to their body and work with it and find embrace their strength and grow into new understanding of their body. Yoga isn't about making shapes with the body and looking great; it is an internal practice and creating a connection with your body and breath. I want to celebrate self love and acceptance. I want to celebrate different body types, sizes, features and looks as well as self- love. Body positivity promotes mental and emotional well-being and encourages us to accept ourselves just as we are; unique, amazing and beautiful.
Life is short, I am now 60, so enjoy it in all it's richness, ups and downs and don't stress about how you look. I love my elasticated trousers, love a good meal with friends and a glass of wine. It is incredible how loving your body can change your life!
" Sometimes we lose sight of the fact that we are all individuals and we are all perfect, we get caught up in the idea that yoga is a function of beauty, when yoga is an expression of beauty, discipline and sacrifice and love. Yoga teaches us to feel within our hearts and experience with or bodies. Remember everyone can do yoga. We breathe ,we feel, we stretch and we connect fully to ourselves even if we don't look like a super model" ( DIanne Bondy)
